I may be a bit bias, but there’s no better place to be at Christmas time than North Stradbroke Island. Although more crowded than the rest of the year, Straddie still has many quiet and secluded beaches where you can relax alone or play with the family. And no matter where the wind is coming from, you will always find a beach to suit.
Deadman’s Beach is of course one of my favourite and not just because it’s right in front of our nose. It’s a great place to play cricket or volleyball, throw the ball for the dog, explore the rock pools, surf, swim or tear down the sandhill.
If you need a patrolled beach, Cylinder Beach is just a quick walk around the corner. It’s a great surfing and swimming beach and also has the great Merlo coffee van near the camping ground. Otherwise Main Beach is also patrolled.
Frenchman’s Beach is another favourite. Facing east, you’ll often escape a northerly wind and can walk along the wide open beach to the cliffs at both ends.
Have fun exploring the many beaches at Straddie this Christmas!
